Gabe Newell and J.J. Abrams Look Into Movie Production Together

Today during one of DICE's keynote conversations between Gabe Newell and famous movie director J.J. Abrams we got some pretty exciting news. They announced they both look forward to collaborating on a single project and making it into a reality. Gabe Newell said "We're going to try and figure out if we can make a Half-Life movie or a Portal movie together."

They followed this up by illustrating how they would like to do this by using scenes from each other's work to show how player agency can augment storytelling. They continued this by saying that films can use "forced" foreshadowing to set up later events. They finished up this by saying that they would want to focus more on the dialogue more seriously.

To both a gamer and movie fan this news is just phenomenal! People may recall that J.J. Abrams is the director behind incredibly successful movies such as Super 8, Star Trek, and the upcoming films Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Wars: Episode VII. The idea of J.J. Abrams directing a movie involving Valve and their most beloved games is just so amazing. I look forward to seeing what J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell begin to work on in the future and to see a great video game movie finally be produced!
