Release of Mists Of Pandaria!

Picture 1

As most people know PC players are huge MMO fans! The new World of Warcraft expansion came out on September 25th this week, and people have been leveling like crazy! I personally haven't been able to play the new parts of the game that much because I do not have a max level character (Working on it. level 75 ftw). I had the chance to RAF (Recruit a friend) Adam McMillin (from our wonderful podcast) and we started leveling the new Pandaren race! I am rolling a priest, I normally play a tank but this time around I'm going to be playing a healer. Just the other night we got Adam into WoW. So for his first character he is going be playing a Pandarian hunter (female of course because he's a boss like that).

So I think the Pandaren is the most fun I've had re-rolling a new race in WoW. The starting zone is quite vast with the expansion opening up a whole new island called Pandaria (go figure). A lot of talk with this latest expansion with the whole "KungFu Panda" movie stuff. Well this is actually a lie, The whole depiction of pandas in Azeroth/Blizzard goes back all the way to Warcraft 3. The character from the trailer (link below) and the picture above is named Chen Stormstout. He actually was one of many famous Brewmasters from the land of Pandaria. Chen had came across Durotar looking for exotic ingreidents to make new and more powerful brews. He meet Rexxar, Son of Mok'Nathal, who helped Chen gather ingredients to perfect his special brew. Later Chen agreed to help the Horde figure out why the Alliance or Humans were attacking them. He went to Theramore Island on a mission where he met Jaina Proudmoore, daughter of Grand Admiral Daelin Proudmoore. Chen helped show Jaina what her father was doing to the area and decided to help Chen with what he needed. Later on Chen helped Rexxar and Thrall defend Durotar from the attacking Kul Tiras. Shortly after Chen taught a few his Brewmastery then left to go back to the neutral home called Pandaria. As you can see, there is quite a bit of lore with this latest expanison. As soon as I buy the game and get to level 90 I will write more about how the the game has changed and more about the story that was added in the expansion. If you guys play WoW good luck getting to max level!

Wii U Region Locked

Do you want to play some Japanese or European games on your Wii U upon release? Well unfortunately that feature will not be allowed by Nintendo. It was announced yesterday that the Wii U will be region locked on all the consoles, meaning if you have a Japanese Wii U you can only play games from that region of the world. You can't play Japanese games on a North American console or European console and vice versa upon release.

This same limitation has been put in place for the Wii, and the Nintendo Gamecube, but players around the world discovered ways around the system and set up their consoles to play those games. I'm sure gamer's will of course find ways to get around the system that Nintendo will put in place but Nintendo will not be supporting it by any means upon launch of the new console.

ARMA 3 Devs Detained in Greece Have A Petition To Support Them

About a week ago employees Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar of Bohemia interactive were detained in Greece for suspicion of espionage. They were arrested for taking pictures and video of a military installation on the island Lemnos in Greece. Since then fans have taken action into their own hands.

Fans and press have been directed to http://www.helpivanmartin.org/ where there is a petition for people to sign and show their support. The page states that Ivan and Martin are facing up to 20 years of prison for taking pictures of the island. People on the site are absolutely furious by the fact these two men were taking pictures of the island just like all other tourists to Greece.

Be sure to show your support to Ivan and Martin and sign the petition. These men don't deserve what they've been charged with and they need to come home. Let's bring them home to their family and friends who are waiting for them!

Steam Big Picture Mode Beta Begins Today

Could Valve make Steam any more awesome. The answer is yes! Ever had a group of friends come over and everyone is huddled around your small desk and computer looking at your favorite game? Ever wanted to play your favorite PC games by sitting on the couch but didn't have a laptop powerful enough to play them? Well PC gamer's the solution to both those questions and more is here!

Steam is launching the Steam Big Picture Mode beta today for PC users around the world. From what I can tell just about everyone will be able to take part in the beta that owns a PC, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Steam Big Picture Mode allows PC gamer's to hook up your PC to your home TV and sit back on the couch with a controller or wireless keyboard and mouse and enjoy Steam from the comfort of your living room. Valve goes above and beyond with what your expecting to see from this new feature.

The list of features that Big Picture has to offer is pretty amazing. You can surf Steam, chat with friends online, play games, and even surf the internet in the world's first first person web browser. All of this can now be done through a controller on your TV sitting in the living room. According to Valve even more features will be implemented into the Big Picture Mode as they continue to build it beyond beta and get feedback from the users.

The setup for users is very simple. If you have a HDMI supported computer or laptop simply plug it in to your TV and your ready to go! If your wanting to go wireless with your setup you can use a WHDI setup and use the feature wireless throughout the house. If you can't or don't want to get your computer setup to a TV simply do it through your existing setup. All these amazing features are still available for you through your monitor. After getting your TV hooked up simply grab a controller supported by your computer and plug it in. There are multiple options for you to choose from when playing with a controller. You can find some pretty cheap wireless controllers like the Logitech F710 or a simple wired Xbox or PS3 controller even. If you still don't want to make a transition to controllers for the feature you can still use your keyboard and mouse if you prefer. Just make sure you have your games setup for controllers and your ready to play.

Valve is always thinking outside the box on how to make gaming a better experience for gamer's around the world. Steam Big Picture Mode is just another prime example of the new innovation of gaming and how Valve wants to be part of it. The beta begins today so make sure you still have Steam installed and keep an eye out for Big Picture in the upper right hand corner of Steam.

Ubisoft PC DRM Is Gone

DRM for PC gamer's is probably the most frustrating thing to deal with in gaming. Your always required to have an internet connection to play some of your games, and if your traveling or your internet is down for the day you can't sit around and play Assassins Creed because of the DRM. Fear not PC gamer's your cries and complaints have been heard! It was announced yesterday afternoon that Ubisoft has finally given up on the use of DRM for PC gaming.

The new changes to PC games that Ubisoft will be implementing will bring joy to a lot of gamer's (including myself). The stupid DRM that requires constant internet connection for even single player games is completely gone. Interestingly enough this feature has even been completely absent from some of the developers newest games.

The next feature that has disappeared is the limiting number of times a game can be activated. You now have the ability to have a game be activated on your desktop, laptop, and even a friends computer if you dare. All that is required for the game is that you activate once and you can start playing on multiple computers.

PC gamer's all around rejoice in the fact that your voices have been heard! This is just another prime example that strong companies listen to the feedback and frustrations of their customers and work to make a better player experience for all their games. If you guys have some feedback on the topic please leave a comment telling us what you think.
