PlayStation 2 Discontinued in Japan

Today marks the end of an era for a console that gamer's grew up with and experienced many memories they will never forget. It was announced today that the PlayStation 2 is discontinued from Japanese retailers and no more consoles will be manufactured. The console was released on March 4th, 2000 and worked its way to the top of the charts by being the most sold console for its generation for gamer's and families to experience.

The first PlayStation had achieved sales numbers of over 100 million, while the PlayStation 2 achieved over 150 million after being sold for almost over 13 years. Even though the PlayStation 2 was a last generation console alongside the original Xbox and the GameCube gamer's still feel that today marks the end of the PlayStation 2. Players will begin to remember memories of playing games such as Grand Theft Auto, Spider-Man, Jak and Daxter, Guitar Hero, Silent Hill and many more. Thank you Sony for developing a great console for us to experience your fantastic games with! We are all very grateful and we wish you the best of luck with upcoming consoles and games!

Diablo 3 Team Deathmatch PvP Shelved

After an incredibly slow week of gaming news during this holiday season we got some news regarding the long awaited Team Deathmatch aspect of Diablo 3, but its not what gamer's wanted to hear. Diablo 3 was released 7 months ago and people have been anxiously waiting and anticipating the PvP aspect including team deatchmatch that has been playable at BlizzonCons before the game release. It was announced last night that the team deathmatch aspect has been shelved from development until further notice.

Blizzard stated that team deathmatch is "not up to the quality that Blizzard gamers expect or that we feel you deserve" and "we will be shelving it for now and exploring other options." Lead designer Jay Wilson claimed that PvP dueling will be included in the 1.07 patch and it will "hit sometime after the new year."

Regarding the deatchmatch mode being shelved Jay Wilson said the game mode in its current form lacked the depth that Blizzard and gamers would want. He stated "simply fighting each other with no other objectives or choices to make gets old relatively quickly" and it "didn't feel like it was something they'd want to do beyond a few hours." The development team has redirected their attention "at new modes that play up to the strengths of the character classes, focus on objectives beyond just defeating other players, and possibly even integrating PvE elements and rewards." Wilson assured gamer's that the PvP update will be free for all gamers to download and experience.

In your opinion what do you think of Blizzard shelving this portion of the PvP? Many gamers were given the chance to play it during past BlizzCons and if you got the chance to play it with other gamers what do you think of their decision to remove it from development?

The War Z Removed From Steam

Earlier this week The War Z was released for gamer's to experience the zombie apocalypse as survivors, but many issues arose in the days to follow the release. Gamer's began to take note of the features the developers showed on Steam regarding server size, game features, and more. A Reddit post highlighted all the features that were incorrect about the game for player's to take note of before deciding to buy the game.

Upon this news reaching Valve and Hammerpoint Interactive the game was removed from Steam by Valve. In the games official forums The War Z executive producer Sergey Titov stated "At the same time it was clear that there were a number of customers that felt that information about the game was presented in a way that could have allowed for multiple interpretations".

Valve's marketing director Doug Lombardi told Forbes in an interview "We've taken steps to correct this and format information presented on our Steam Store page in a way so it provides more clear information about the game features that are present in the Foundation Release and what to expect in the coming weeks. We also want to extend our apologizes to all players who misread information [sic] about game features.

Valve has also offered gamer's who've purchased the game the chance to get refunds if they choose. "We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they recieved may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here" stated Doug Lombardi.

THQ Files Bankruptcy

Today it was announced by THQ that the company has filed for Chapter 11 which is a reorganization bankruptcy. Along with filing a Chapter 11 the company has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Clearlake Capital Group. The company will acquire the assets of THQ's operating business including their four owned studios and the games in development.

While Clearlake Capital Group did acquire these assets it will in no way shape or form affect upcoming games in 2013 for THQ. CEO Brian Farrell of THQ regarding the news of this chapter 11 stated "The sale and filing are necessary next steps to complete THQ's transformation and position the company for the future, as we remain confident in our existing pipeline of games, the strength of our studios and THQ's deep bench of talent."

Along with this news the document filing the chapter 11 held information regarding unannounced games that are currently in production. It was revealed that Relic Entertainment is working on a project titled "Atlas" that is currently set to launch in 2014, alongside Company of Heroes 2. Turtle Rock Studios appears to also be developing a game titled "Evolve that is a co-op multiplayer action game. THQ Montreal is also developing a title named "1666", but no information about this game was released aside from the title. And finally Vigil Games has a game titled "Crawler" in development and once again the only information revealed was the title of the project.

What is to come of these revealed games is very unclear, but a community message from Jason Rubin on THQ's website assured gamer's once again that upcoming games will continue in development including rumored title's such as another Saints Row and Homefront. Gamer's don't worry THQ is not going anywhere this is basically a restructuring of the company in order for it to transition into what the company wants to be and to continue to bring gaming entertainment to fans across the world.

THQ's Interest In Linux Operating System

After the recent success of this year's Humble Bundle from THQ the company has begun to ponder developing for the Linux operating system. While THQ isn't in the greatest shape the company benefited from this years controversial Humble Bundle and THQ president Jason Rubin expressed that the company is weighing the cost/benefit of developing on the open source operating system.

After receiving a tweet from a fan stating "can you guys consider doing some games for Linux? I know it seems a small market, but look at what Valve is doing." Rubin responded stating THQ's possible interest. Rubin tweeted back stating "Got the Linux message [loud] and clear via #HumbleBundle feedback. Evaluating cost/benefit as we speak".

THQ putting some games into development for Linux could be the break that the company needs to get itself out of the hole their stuck in. While stock for the company was incredibly low before the Humble Bundle of this year the fans showed they still had a huge interest in the company by helping bring it's stock back up 40% from the contributions fans made in their purchases of the Humble Bundle. Hopefully THQ has begun to see the message that gamer's are sending the company a lot clearer regarding what they would like to see hopefully come out of THQ and what they believe can help the company. Whether or not THQ will be putting more time into developing games for Linux is not yet clear, but the company is showing interest in the operating system from the feedback of gamer's.

Layoffs Hit Machinima

Bad news hit some of the employees today at the highly known Machinima.com about their jobs. It was seen today that 23 people were hit with layoffs today from the highly popular website and YouTube network. It was said this was due to "growing pains" considering the company has grown incredibly large over the last few years.

Machinima released an official statement today saying "Today Machinima underwent a reorganization to address its global growth, and this process unfortunately resulted in layoffs. Less than 10% of Machinima's workforce was effect. Also part of the restructure Machinima is hiring across key divisions in Sales, Marketing, and Product."

Hopefully no more layoffs will be put into place for the company and our thoughts go out to those who were affected by today's choices.

My Excitement For The Phantom Pain

This year at the Video Game awards we had multiple world premiers that got gamer's attention, but one stood out in my eyes above the others. The Phantom Pain stood out so much in my eyes above games like The Last of Us, Metro: Last Light, and Dark Souls 2 and for good reason.

Something I always look forward to with another year in games is those games that are completely original ideas that just blow the minds of gamer's away. The Phantom Pain completely blew my mind away with questioning what is going on, why is this happening, and how will the character escape this unknown hell. The idea of playing a game where the character wakes up out of a long coma into an unknown world where people are dying, and unknown anomalies are happening all around just gets me excited beyond belief. Just from seeing the world premier I feel that this game will be entirely based around the plot of discovering what this mystery is and being kept in the dark until the very last moments of the game where things possibly still won't make any sense.

Games that pull off this amazing task of keeping players in the dark and keeping their attention the entire time stand out far beyond the standard in games. I've personally even established in my mind that I don't want to even think about this to much just to keep my mind from developing ideas for the cause of this and to be shocked upon playing the game. I am very much hoping the Moby Dick Studios has strong plans and intentions to bring this game into the PC market because the visuals looked breath taking and the idea of that gameplay being played on a good PC get's me that much more excited for the release. Possibly even the idea of the developers showing very little if next to nothing before the release of this game I view could help benefit the release of this game and sales numbers of the game as well, of course this is as long as a good number of people actually knew this game was in development. What will befall with this mystery of the unknown is to be determined as time progresses and only time will tell.

If you want to see the trailer take a look at the video below.

Valve Enters The Living Room

Upon Half-Life 2 by Valve winning game of the decade at the VGA's we got a bit of news that got gamer's a little excited to see what's coming out from Valve. In a interview with Kotaku Gabe Newell stated that in the next year Valve will be competing with the next-gen consoles for the living room.

Valve will be designing smaller controlled PC's in a sense that can run Steam right away for gamer's. These small computers in a sense would hook straight into your TV and play all your favorite games. Newell also stated that with this setup they'd be competing with the next-gen consoles like Microsoft and Sony with their new next-gen consoles rumored to be released in the next holiday season.

Newell told a Kotaku reporter "I think in general that most customers and most developers are gonna find that [the PC is] a better environment for them, cause they won't have to split the world into thinking about 'why are my friends in the living room, why are my video sources in the living room different from everyone else?' So in a sense we hopefully are gonna unify those environments."

With all this news regarding Valve entering the living room with their version of a console has gotten gamer's excited beyond belief. Even through the confidence that gamer's have for Valve we won't know how well this idea holds up til it hits retailers hopefully next holiday season. If you want to read the entire interview with Gabe Newell visit the article by Kotaku.

All Around Gamer's Ep. 62 "The If You Know What I Mean Show"

This week on the show the game discussion focuses on games such as Dishonored, Dragon Age, and Black Ops 2. BioShock Delayed...Again

Last time we heard about a release date for BioShock Infinite it was delayed to February of 2013. Now once again the highly anticipated game has been delayed one more month. The game is now set to release on March 26th, 2013.

Originally the thoughts regarding the cause of the delay would be from the amount of departures Irrational faced this year, but thankfully its quite the opposite. Earlier in August Rod Fergusson announced that he was leaving EPIC games and transferring to Irrational to put work into BioShock Infinite. Regarding the delay Ken Levine stated "The game has to be the best game it could possibly be". This statement was relaying the teams feelings for the game development and the recent hiring of Rod Fergusson.

Even though this is the second delay that Irrational has put on for BioShock they've stated that it will benefit the final product for gamer's to experience. Knowing Irrational and their work on the past 2 BioShock games they shouldn't disappoint their fans.

BioWare Is Losing My Respect

For me personally I got into playing Mass Effect much later than the rest of the entire series of fans who've been playing the games since the release of the first game. Regardless of me getting into the game much later than most of the fans I grew to enjoy and love the gameplay, lore, and story of Shepherd fighting to save the galaxy from the Reapers. I was even one individual in the small group of people who didn't complain about the ending to Mass Effect 3 and found it to be a very satisfying ending to the series, but BioWare is starting to lose my respect for the Mass Effect series.

My respect for BioWare and their decisions with the Mass Effect series began to decrease after deciding to release a free DLC that explained the endings of the third game due to the fact that the entire internet world was hounding them on a decision they made for the ending of the game. Even though the DLC was only an explanation piece of DLC I still lost respect to a degree due to the fact that they gave into to people yelling and screaming at them instead of holding strong to the decisions they made for their game series that they've worked on for over 5 years.

Now with a new Mass Effect game in development BioWare is beginning to lose more of my respect for their decisions on the Mass Effect series. With it being stated that the game will be running on the Frostbite instead of the Unreal 3 engine is a decision that will bring a much better looking game to gamer's. Regardless though of their engine changes I still find their decision to make a brand new game absolutely horrible on their part. Mass Effect 3 ended with such a great way of wrapping up the series that people grew to love exponentially even though it was the most criticized game in the whole series. I feel that BioWare is just taking a franchise that has developed such a great fan basis with so much lore and story and just absolutely milking it for more money on their part. I personally would have been entirely fine with just releasing DLC for ME3 and moving on to work on Dragon Age 3 and more games, but a brand new game of Mass Effect just feels like to much.

In my personal opinion BioWare needs to move on past the Mass Effect series they concluded and not milk a series that people have grown to love. These decisions have caused them to lose respect they've gained after fantastic games such as KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, and the early Mass Effect games. If anyone else has anything to add to this please let me know your opinions on BioWare's recent decisions for the series.

Mirror's Edge 2 In Development?

In 2008 Mirror's Edge was released to much satisfaction from gamer's on all platforms. Fans of the game have been asking for a follow up for quite a while and they may be getting their wish. A tweet posted by a former EA Developer Ben Cousins on his Twitter a tweet that caught the eye of the industry. He stated in his tweet "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE".

This claim was soon addressed by a current employee at DICE Stefan Boberg who is the Technical Director of the Frostbite Engine on Twitter stating "Never trust a man who badmouths and talks down all his ex-employers... but still attempts to gain credibility by association #nohire".

Rumors of the Mirror's Edge sequel have been floating around throughout the year, but this is the closest we've been to possibly seeing it become a reality. Even though this comes from a former EA developer its the closest we've come to hearing about a follow up. Time will tell if this claim is true and if gamer's will be getting the game they're wanting.

If you were excited about the news regarding GTA: V and were wanting to relive some memories on past Grand Theft Auto games you won't be getting Vice City. It was announced yesterday that Grand Theft Auto Vice City has been temporarily removed from online retailers. According to Cinema Blend the reasoning for the temporary removal is due to music licensing issues inside the game. Cinema Blend also revealed that they believe the cause for this came from Sony Music Entertainment regarding the song 'Wanna Be Startin' Something' by Michael Jackson.

After filing this claim against the song being in the game retailers have removed it temporarily while these issues are straightened out. According to Game Informer this will not be affecting the upcoming release of the  iOS version of the game.

Skyrim: Dragonborn DLC

Bethesda has JUST released the trailer for their 3rd new Downloadable Content, called Dragonborn.

In this DLC its rumored to have Dragon mounts, new armor, new races, and very mystical landscape named Solstheim.

Concerning new weapons, we might be seeing spears as weapons in this new DLC!

Sadly, it has not been confirmed, nor denied, that the dragons will be player controlled, but we can always hope!

Dragonborn DLC will be launching on the Xbox360 on December 4th for a mere 1600 microsoft points! Personally that seems like a steal! Basically a whole branch of the game for a 3rd of its original, brand new price!

However, no statement from Bethesda on when, or if, the content will be available for PS3 or PC. {sorry PS3 users :(  }

Xbox360 users, I'm so stoked for this new DLC! Aren't you!?

Big Thanks!!

First of all I was surprised at how much we had raised for this charity event. As you know last event we had we didn't make one cent towards our charity so it is an accomplishment in itself that we were able to raise money by gaming. I would like to give a big big thanks to Anthony Ramirez over at http://www.twitch.tv/5thagespartan for joining our team for this stream and raising a whopping $140, this helped out the team to raise a total of $227. Another big thank you I would have to say is to the Deao family for hosting most of the event/livestream hub at their house in LA. Unfortunately as a Marylander myself I was not able to travel 4000 miles over there, nor was the group able to Maryland to have a group event. We hope to raise some money hopefully to be able to meet at convention centers in the near future and possibly have small fan meetups.

Though it was a great event, we lost a fellow member, Sir Neckbeard of the Adam gave his life for $200, clean shaven Adam has these words to say, "I'm so cooold". From here all I can say is thank you for those who stopped by the stream, unfortunately this will be out last charity livestream for a little while. We will still stream and be active in the streaming possibly doing longer stream and hopefully giving you guys some great content on our YouTube channel AAGCentral.

This week the podcast was a little shorten than we expected, but nevertheless it was still a lot of fun. Mike and Cameron discussed some more WoW once again and Cameron did some more discussion on Darksiders 2. Harrison had a huge laundry list of games that he played this week so it was a lot of fun. Some hilarious stories were told during the podcast, news was pretty good for the week as well, and the questions were great this week!

Sleeping Dog's First DLC Release Date Oct. 30

Over the weekend Square Enix announced at the New York Comic Con that Sleeping Dogs will be getting it's first DLC this month, and oddly enough its going to be horror based. The DLC is titled Nightmare in North Point with the story following a member of the triad who was brutally tortured and murdered and returns to life with the undead by his side. It as revealed that the player will continue playing as Wei Shen and the DLC with last for "a few hours."

I find it both interesting and confusing that the first batch of DLC we get for this game is horror themed. It makes sense to a degree considering the release is set for the end of October, and thoughts come to mind of Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare. The Undead Nightmare DLC released by Rockstar made sense due to the setting of Red Dead Redemption, but for Sleeping Dogs I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around the Hong Kong setting of GTA and undead zombies.

Maybe I'm alone in these thoughts or maybe I'm voicing someone's opinion as well. If you have opinions on the DLC please leave a comment voicing your thoughts. The DLC is set to release on October 30th with no price or platform information released yet.

Game Titled "Avalanche" in Development

Avalanche is a game where the character goes off on a weekend with friends and while hiking things go terribly wrong. The ground begins shaking, you hear a loud roar, and you look up to see a avalanche bearing down on you. All of your friends go in different directions and you are caught in the avalanche and are knocked unconscious. Upon waking up you realize you are all alone and have no supplies to handle the situation you are stuck in.

Avalanche is a survival game where you will use your natural survival instincts to gather food, build shelter, and fight off any prey that might attack you. In the game you will use weapons such as axes, hammers, spears, and bows and arrows to fight for you life in the game.

While surviving you will also battle the weather environments that surround you as well. You deal with rain downpour, snow storms, and the possibility of another avalanche reoccurring. Aside from the survival aspect of the wilderness not much story has been revealed but according the lead developer Kristofer Maclean there will be aspects of a story within the game, but it will be hidden for players to find while surviving the environments.

Not much else has been made clear about the game so far but more is to come very soon. The game is set to go into beta in the next month and it's already available for pre-order. Players will get their chance to fight for survival in Avalanche in December. You can take a closer look at the game through the developers website at http://www.xenarch.com/ Will you survive the avalanche and all that comes with it, or you will you thrive and discover what story is in store for the game?
