Disney Shuts Down Lucas Arts

Growing up and playing games every gamer remembers playing at least one LucasArts game and it was probably a Star Wars game. When Disney bought Star Wars they also got the LucasArts development studio in the deal. Unfortunately it was announced that Disney has shut down Lucas Arts development studio and cancelled all current projects from the studio.

The shutdown laid off over 150 people in the studio and cancelled 2 anticipated games, Star Wars 1313, and Star Wars: First Assault. Disney plans to use the Lucas Arts name to license games, but not develop games anymore. In a statement from LucasFilm the parent company of LucasArts they stated "After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we've had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles."

After hearing this news gamer's have been reminiscing their favorite memories of the games that LucasArts developed. Rest in peace LucasArts. We will always have those special memories that you created for us.

What were some of your fondest memories from this studio?

No Single Player DLC Planned For Tomb Raider

The newest Tomb Raider was released to much praise from gamer's and websites and people have been asking what else is in store for the game. Gamer's are asking if Crystal Dynamics is in the process or planning to develop any single player DLC for the game, but it doesn't look like we'll be getting that unfortunately.

Crystal Dynamics confirmed that they plan to only develop multi-player content for the game. The global brand director Karl Stewart stated "There are currently no plans in place for any single-player expansions. All of our DLC is based around the multiplayer experience for now."

While this statement doesn't specifically say that no singleplayer DLC will be developed it appears by the tone of the statement that we won't ever get it. Tomb Raider already has a "Caves and Cliffs Pack" multiplayer map pack released for $5 to expand the maps on the multiplayer experience. Whether or not this is a smart choice by Crystal Dynamics remains to be seen. How do you guys as the players feel about just getting multiplayer maps instead of single-player DLC for the new Tomb Raider?

Saints Row 4 Confirmed

It was announced today that the highly anticipated Saints Row 4 is set for release on August 20th. Fear about whether or not this game would see the light of day was a concern due to the THQ fiasco, but Saints Row survived. People had originally thought that Saints Row 3 would be receiving an expansion labeled "Enter the Dominatrix" but a spokesperson from Deep Silver shed some light on "Enter the Dominatrix".

"That expansion was cancelled and elements of it were rolled into Saints Row 4. There will be a director's cut of Enter the Dominatrix released as DLC when SR4 comes out." The game will be developed by Volition which Deep Silver acquired during the auction of THQ. It's being developed for PC and current generation consoles and in a follow up it was confirmed that the game was not being developed for the Wii-U.
